Mihai Pătraşcu, R.I.P

我通常都會在這個部落格提一下最近某個大獎獎落誰家，不過最近忙一些個人私事，所以一直把 Venkatesan Guruswami 和 Mihai Pătraşcu 共同得到 Presburger Award 這件是放在草稿夾裡。

但是今天看到一個新聞，讓我震驚不已。Mihai Pătraşcu 過世了。

真是難以置信，這麼天才，這麼年輕的學者竟然就這樣過世了。雖然才二十九歲，他的研究歷程短卻驚人，19 篇 STOC/FOCS 論文。Presburger Award 的獲獎原由寫得更清楚 --

for breaking “many old barriers on fundamental data structure problems, not only revitalizing but also revolutionizing a field that was almost silent for over a decade.”
